Planning to upgrade old Gates web server

We are replacing our ageing Gates Server running NT 4.0 with something new, probably something running Windows 2003. My question is how have other libraries handled the server upgrade, which company did you purchase your hardware from and did you paid to have tech support come to the library and setup your web server? Also I heard you can run a web server with XP Pro instead of Windows 2003, does anyone in fact do that?
